Since the slicing engine and available settings are different between Cura and CloudPrint, this required a lot of test prints and validation before we got our profiles to where we wanted them. makerbot files was a difficult and lengthy process that took months of dedicated work by the Cura team.Īnother reason was that we wanted the print profiles for our Method printers to be as well-tuned and as well-tested as the profiles inside of CloudPrint. gcode files whereas the Method series uses. Meaning it’s now possible to use either Cura or the existing cloud-slicing software CloudPrint when printing with these printers or materials.Ĭura allows users to slice files for hundreds of 3rd party printers, so why did it take so long for Method series printers to be supported, which as of the merger, are made by UltiMaker? There are several reasons, but the most relevant is that Method series printers use a different file type than the majority of printers, including S series printers. As of this release, users can find profiles for our Method and Method XL printers, as well as material profiles for ABS-R, ABS-CF, and RapidRinse. Additionally, since the previous 5.5 release, the Cura team has leveraged the engine plugin capabilities introduced in that release to create a new plugin that gives you a bunch of new infill options! Cura now supports Method series printers!Ī year after the merger of Ultimaker and MakerBot, we have unlocked the ability for users of our Method series printers to slice files using UltiMaker Cura. Including, the long-awaited support for Method series printers, as well as additional settings that now let you control the base of your prime towers. I am interested in this because I can see the potential to increase the speed to 100 mm/s or even more and keep the wall and top/bottom speeds at say 50mm/s and not loose any quality but reduce the time.In this article, we will take a look at some of the new features of Cura that you can look forward to in this 5.6 stable release. Normally if I were to print at 20 mm/s instead of 50 mm/s then I would reduce the nozzle temperature. However isn't there a problem with nozzle temperature? I can understand that reducing the speed for the walls and the top/bottom should improve the print quality. I'll definitely look at that and see if that is where the delay is. Setting those to 50 will improve print speed from 46 min to 24 min. Cura 2.1 uses wall speed of 40, outer /inner wall of 30 and top/bottom speed of 20. I don't even think there are much retractions in this print.Ĭhanging the top/bottom does have a dramatic impact. Įnabling retraction doesn't save any time. Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light onto this. Sliced with 14.09 first and loaded the profile into 15.04.6 from the gcode created by 14.09.Ġ.1mm layers, 0.8mm shell, 0.8mm top and bottom, 25% fill, 50mm/s, Brim. I have the firmware from 15.04.9 installed on the Ultimaker 2+Ĭura 14.09 said the print would take 25 min and it actually took 25 min 48 secondsĬura 15.04.6 said the print would take 24 min and it actually took 32 min 17 seconds The gcode file sliced using Cura 15.04.6 The original stl file of a cuboid 30x30x10 mm However if anyone is interested in looking into this here are some files. OK, sorry it has taken me so long to sort out the files. You can't post them here so post them in dropbox or some other web site that you have control over (preferably not something that will only host the files for a month). Really the entire gcode files need be posted as that will include any scaling you did, multiple objects, and will include all settings. Well if you want someone to fix this, please post an STL and the 2 gcode files created so someone can analyze what is different and maybe make an improvement to the latest cura.
